The Rainmaker

And here I was, standing in the rain, silent yet complete; alone, yet found by the comforts of solitude; confused, yet in a deeper understanding of the life and death of all of us; destroyed, yet made whole by the fleeting and temporary nature of everything around me.

The rain pounded on my bare skin and I welcomed it with all of me. And as my eyes conceived the lightning, and my ears the screams of the thunder, I realized that the storms are right above me. I was lost in oblivion, and in that moment, I felt the presence of the universe.

I feel like I should go and play with the thunder, chase the winds, and caress the lightning, and allow myself to the possibility of being destroyed, only to know how it feels to be made whole again.

I feel like I should go and play with the thunder, chase the winds, and caress the lightning, only to fathom the life that flows in the veins of my decaying body, and appreciate the wonders and thrill of its mortality.

Mortality! The gods they envy us for it, for they will never be intoxicated by the evanescence and ephemeral nature of life, and be mystified by its fleetingness. For mortals, every moment is precious as it never comes back, but for the gods bound by a timeless playground, they will never get to appreciate the bitter-sweet bliss of a beautiful day that has come to an end. They do not sit in a lighthouse and watch in awe the sight of the sunsets, nor do they rise early to witness the joys of the sun rising after stormy waters left the shore wrecked.

… And this moment just passed me by – me standing in the rain with the storms around me, the thrill of being alive, and the subtle realization that nothing lasts forever. This moment may be lost in time, and the poets shall not move their pens to mystify this moment, but in my heart this moment will live forever. And in that instant, I became above the gods; mortal and decaying – yet living with euphoria of having everlasting memories, and with the beauty of the mystery of life – never quite understanding it, but living in the bounty of its enigma.
