Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is approximately 430 km northwest of the Namibian capital, Windhoek and 100km west of Khorixas. The lodge is perfectly located for exploring the Kunene Region of Namibia (formerly known as the Damaralands), specifically the Twyfelfontein, a site of ancient rock engravings dating back at least 6'000 years into the past.

Unique Landscapes and Architecture
Twyfelfontein is located in a transitional zone between semi desert, savanna and scrubland, receiving less than 150mm annual rainfall. Having that in mind, you cannot help but notice the unique terrain of this area. If you came by car from Windhoek or Sossusvlei, you will realize how this area looks completely different from all you have seen so far from this country.. Astounding sandstone formations grace the entire area with their intense red color which create the backdrop for a scenic masterpiece of nature.
Every now and then, you see these isolated white trees growing out of the sandstone, giving a magical and eerie appeal to the landscape.
A Window into Ancient History
The Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is set in the historic region which is now part of the Twyfelfontein Uibasen Conservatory, which features ancient rock engravings and paintings. The lodge is built with natural stones and thatch and was specifically designed to blend and become one with the surrounding. The area is a silent yet profound testimony to the first hunter-gatherer and subsequent Khoi-San inhabitants of 6 000 years ago, who used the area as a place of worship and shaman rituals. There are 17 different sites of rock paintings, totalling 212 stone slabs.
Accommodation
The Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is comprised of 56 en-suite rooms, all of which are spacious and equipped with necessary amenities. The bonus point of these accommodations are the private verandas per suite and depending on where your cottage is located, you can look out on spectacular views of the stone formations and the vastness of the landscape.
Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is at the base of a massive stone formation, rendering the appeal of a waterfall. This pool and the accommodation as a whole have been a unique aesthetic experience, considering the amazing colors of the sandstones. Depending on the time of day, the color changes in varying intensities which is a spectacle to behold.
Dining
Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is hailed for its impressive kitchen. The buffet was amazing as it was filled with a vast variety of food. During dinner, we were serenaded by the staff, who were singing beautiful traditional African songs, which added to the authenticity and uniqueness of the entire dining experience.
In summary
I highly recommend the Twyfelfontein Country Lodge as accommodation of choice in Namibia, especially if you wish to immerse yourself in the one of a kind landscapes of the Kunene region of Namibia. I can also imagine that the place must be ideal for celebrating personal milestones, be it wedding ceremonies, small group celebrations and honeymoons, as it is simply such a unique place which remains unmatched.
